Cool Roof Waterproof Coating

D066 DURABUILD COOL ROOF WATERPROOF COATING is an elastic resilient acrylic reinforced weather durable coating with dual benefits of thermal insulation and superior waterproofing. It helps in reduction of energy usages by less heat transfer into buildings thus keeping the interiors cool. It has excellent crack bridging ability to prevent water leakages through the hairline cracks developed on the roof surfaces. The presence of micro-fibers enhances life of the coating and white pigment improves the building’s aesthetics.

Uses:

  • Waterproofing treatment over existing cementitious surface like acrylic polymer coating or other water based coatings.
  • Waterproofing over prevalent brickbat coba, concrete screeds surface, plastered exterior surface.
  • Can be used on APP membrane.

Features:

  • Additional protective plastering is not required
  • Easy to apply -can be applied by brush or by roller.
  • Excellent UV and IR resistance and reduced heat conductivity.
  • Saves energy in cooling and heating.
  • Superior impermeability to water under hydrostatic head pressure due to ponded water on terrace.
  • Does not require removal of existing sound cementitious layers like brickbat coba, plaster, etc.
  • Excellent crack bridging ability which can accommodate structural movements by bridging cracks upto 2mm width.
  • Eco-friendly water based economical synthetic elastomeric rubber.
  • Ready-to-use directly from the container.
  • It is non-toxic and non-flammable product.

Application Method:

1 Surface Preparation

Surface should be sound and free of dirt, dust, oil and loose adhering particles. Damaged or hollow portions, sharp edges must be cut or removed from mother slab. The slab should be recoated with Durabuild Acrylic Polymer modified cement slurry (mix ratio 1:1) by brush. After the coating is dry, the brick bat coba in that portion should be reinstated by mixing of Durabuild Acrylic Polymer in base slurry as well as in the top coba mortar. In other areas, where brickbat coba is sound, the surface cracks must be filled with Durabuild polymer modified mortar in case cracks are more than 5mm. Crack less than 2mm, should be cleaned free of dust with air Blower. Apply Durabuild Anti- Efflorescent Primer in the crack and wait for dry. Then pour Cool Roof Waterproof Coating in to the cracks and wait for it to dry. Bitumen based waterproofing treatments if existing, must be completely removed by mechanical scarification or by any other effective mechanical means.

2 Application

Dilute 2 part of Durabuild Anti- Efflorescent Primer with 1 part of water and apply over the surface. This will cover 7 to 8 m2 per kg of primer. Allow it to dry for 5 to 6 hours. Apply the first coat of Durabuild Cool Roof Waterproof Coating without any dilution at the rate of 2.0 m2 per kg and allow it to dry before taking up the second and third coats. In large areas, an open woven glass fibre mesh must be sandwiched between the first and second coats. While first coat is still wet, place of fibre mesh on it. After the coat dries, start applying the second coat of Cool Roof Coating at right angles. This improves the performance of the coating dramatically, to take care of all movements in cracks and cold joints in the substrate caused by variations of high and low temperatures. This reinforcement with the fibre mesh extended up to the drip mould over the angle fillets. Allow the system to air cure for 7 days. An additional coat may be applied if required.

3 Maintenance & Recoating Of Cool Roof Waterproof Coating

It is extremely easy to recoat over Cool Roof Waterproof Coating if required in case of damages or cracks due to exposure to weathering or temperature variations. Any cracks can be treated by sandwiching a fibre mesh between the two coats when recoating. In other areas where there are no cracks, one coat of Cool Roof Coating is sufficient after necessary surface preparation.

Precautions and Limitations:

  • All corners, gaps, joints, protrusions & outlets shall be coated with two extra coats.
  • The product is designed only for foot traffic and not vehicular or movement of machinery or equipment.
  • Do not apply elastomeric coating over expansion or moving joints
  • Never dilute coating with water for ease of application
  • Stir well before use.
